Call a Pittsburgh Attorney After You Have Been Injured
July 1, 2016
When you have been injured, you need a Pittsburgh attorney who can look toward the future and determine what you will need. Too often, accident victims settle an injury claim without thinking about the future. Things like medical bills, lost wages, transportation expenses, etc. can and will add up, so if you do not ask for future expenses, you could end up footing the bill. This is why I spend a great deal of time discussing the full impact of injuries with my clients and carefully reviewing their medical file to determine what will be necessary for them to recover physically and financially from their injuries.
Common Accident Injuries
Across the board, there are certain injuries that seem to be common, regardless of accident type.
Back injuries. As an injury attorney, I represent many people who have suffered back injuries and have seen how debilitating they can be. They can make it difficult to sit, stand, or move. As a result, you may not be able to work in the same capacity and may even need to hire someone to help you clean the house or care for the yard. This represents a direct financial expense for you and one that you should not have to bear on your own.
Broken bones. If you break a bone during an accident, you will need to wear a cast, you may need surgery, and you are likely to need physical therapy as well. This can represent a prolonged recovery time where you will face financial expenses beyond what is normal for your lifestyle. For example, paying for physical therapy or even support bandages costs money, and you should not have to pay this on your own.
Post-traumatic stress disorder. Most people gloss over the fact that an accident can cause serious mental and emotional stress. PTSD is becoming more commonly associated with accident victims, and if you are afraid to do many of the same activities as you did prior to the accident or you have mental and emotional challenges you're working through, you could have undiagnosed PTSD. If you do, it is likely that it is impacting virtually all areas of your life and that you are incurring financial expenses as a result. This must be factored into any requests for compensation.
Sprains and strains. As a Pittsburgh attorney, I hear from many accident victims that their injury may not be severe enough to file a lawsuit. A sprain and a strain are not as serious as a break, but it can also be devastating. If for example, you sprain your wrist but your wrist is needed to work, that can directly impact your ability to earn a living. Any wage loss you have experienced should be compensated for.
Time Matters
You should call my office to speak with a Pittsburgh attorney as soon as possible after your accident. Many people will wait until they have recovered, but this is not necessary. I can predict what your expenses may be in order to make sure you receive enough compensation, and calling right away will ensure that you do not run into the statute of limitations.
